Editing for Writers

A lot of people (read: everyone but the teacher and me) in my Creative writing class have a utilitarian view of editors at best. I thought up this in response:

To writers who think it's an editor's job to worry about syntax or grammar or spelling or whatever, I would ask them if they were an actor, how would they treat their makeup artists? An editor, like a makeup artist, can make you look very good or very foolish. Be nice to your editors.

Quote for the Day

"All the problems with the English language
can be traced back to the fact
that you have dozens of words for sex
and only one for love."
